HOW WILL DESTROYING THE ESZ OF KBR NATIONAL PARK IMPACT US, THE HYDERABADIS

  • KBR helps increasing our Water Table.

    • The KBR National Park is located on a ridge and acts as a complete water conservation system. The rainwater flows from the ridge (high level) to the valleys and acts as important water sink feeding several lakes in and around the city. It is an excellent natural rainwater harvesting system. Due to the green cover present on its surface, it retains water and a ridge will remain self-sufficient in terms of water requirements and also replenish the nearby groundwater tables.

  • Temperature control and Air purifier

    • The KBR National Park is rightly called the lungs of Hyderabad.  Hyderabad currently has a dismal 2.6% tree cover as compared to a national average of 10%. Global studies have proved a direct correlation between forest cover / urban green canopy and temperature in any city. It keeps the areas around atleast 2 to 3 degrees celsius less. The KBR National Park plays a key role in maintaining the much-needed Oxygen levels for people by acting as a carbon sink.

  • Walkway to more than 5000 people everyday

    • To safeguard the Forest Areas there is a cap of only 2000 people being allowed to enter the National Park and that too with a nominal fee.  Hence most of the early morning walkers use this walkway, that is the proposed site of building the flyover.  With this destroyed there is no replacement in the vicinity. Where will the remaining 3000 people be allowed to walk?

  • Climate Change is the biggest threat the earth and its existence faces currently.

    • Enough and more calamities and damages are proving this throughout the globe. Deforestation and cutting of trees being a significant risk factor contributing to the same. Under such circumstances shrinking the ESZ is not an option.

  • Weekend retreat for people from all walks of Life

    • The KBR National Park is used by thousands of people be it families, students, children, senior citizens, animal lovers, botanists and many others who travel from across the city to enjoy the natural beauty and peaceful time with nature that the park has to offer.  With the flyover and cars passing overhead and the decreased flora and fauna, this experience and means of recreation and enjoyment for all classes of people will be wiped out. Currently it is the only place in the city where children can experience and see the treasures that the Environment has to offer.
